Remains of an old bridge spanning the Savannah River. We crossed over into Georgia from South Carolina and turned off the road into a small parking area. Just needed to stretch out legs after riding for a while. Nice photo-op...

I was on my way to see the guidestones in Georgia and pulled over here to put a helmet on. I think the guidestones are about 10 or 12 miles from this location. I had no idea this was a point of interest but did see some folks fishing from the structure on my way back through. Looks like a place I would like to come back and fish sometime. However, I'm not sure if that is SC or Georgia because it seems you have to get onto the structure from the Georgia side but could have your line in SC waters...🤔 Not sure about that one.

This is the remnants of the Smith-McGee bridge, built in 1922, which used to carry SC/GA-181 over the river until the current concrete bridge was built in 1983. One of the spans is gone but most of the original truss bridge infrastructure is still there. This year it turns 100 years old, so pretty cool to visit in its centennial. Not much to see, just a good view of the Savannah. Enjoy!
