I was surprised seeing bad reviews for this business. American movers, family owned company, made sure we are taken care of in preparation for our long distance move. They were on time, very responsive and professional. The owner personally stopped by to check if everything was going well. The company’s task was to pack our house and prep it for the move by the actual moving company. The crew was friendly and helpful. So, no complaints. 🙂

Military servicemembers: STAY AWAY from this place for your weigh-ins if you're doing a DITY move.

You pay up front & come back when your vehicle is packed with your items & finish the weigh in. My story: (1) I paid the full fee for the weigh in. (You have to, up front.) They weighed my vehicle empty, gave me a receipt, & then advised me to come back to weigh the vehicle once it'd been loaded. (You can do it all in one go, but I did it in two). I didn't get the initial weight ticket as they said they'd provide that when I returned. (2) I returned at a later date (which they verbally confirmed would be acceptable) with my vehicle loaded. They said it had been too long & would not complete the weigh-in. I had my receipt (showing I had paid), but it didn't seem to matter to them when I showed them. (3) I asked for a refund as I hadn't had the full services rendered. The request was refused. I asked for half of the weigh-in fee retuned as I had only received half of what was promised (though not even that, really, because I'd not been given the initial weight ticket for the empty vehicle). That was refused as well (as I'd expected it would be).

Quite displeased with paying for a service, receiving only half of it (& not even really that), & then not being refunded when they claimed it had been too long since the first weigh-in though verbally I'd been told it would be acceptable). What had happened is they'd discarded my first weight ticket. I had a payment receipt, but that didn't seem to matter. I could have paid again & emptied the car out & filled it back up, but this was not acceptable to me so I went elsewhere. If I was going to pay again then I'd give my money to someone else.

I've PCS'd with the military numerous times in the last 14 years and this company, American Movers, is the worst moving company I've ever dealt with by far. I had just come back from a year long deployment so my HHG were in storage. You would think my stuff being locally stored would make things easier, wrong, not with American Movers INC. It took them almost two months to confirm a drop off date. The actually movers themselves were great, but whoever handled the administrative part is a disaster. After they unpacked they gave me the number to call in order to have them pick up my boxes...I did call, it's been three weeks, and I still have the boxes with me. If I could I would only give them a half star.

DO NOT USE!!!!!!!!!!STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. This is a total scam, criminal organization that will provide you with a low estimate, great customer service until they show up to your house pick up all your stuff and then claim your cubic feet is much more than they thought. I was quoted $12,500 for my move only to have it go up to $19,500 on the day after everything was picked up. They will take your stuff to some "storage facility", at this point they believe to have you and will ask for 60% of the total bill which in my case was $12K, through Zelle or cash, ding ding ding ding!!!!!!!!!!! you know you been gotten at this point. The DOT number (3092024) they use on my inventory is not valid according to the FDOT Website and their ICC/MC #899784 which allows them to transport your goods across state lines is actually fake, non-existent. In addition look up their business address on google maps, its an apartment complex.

Now I see why we have people in the military that deal with these moving companies! We had to move some stuff from California to North Carolina and because it wasn’t a PCS move we did it on our own. All I’m going to say is READ THE FINE PRINTS!! DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITHOUT READING all their “policies and procedures” we lost out on $2500 and didn’t even have our thing move because of the lack of communication from the agent and THEM screwing up the whole pick up day! You will deal with a third party after the initial agent you talk to charges your card. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!!!

American Movers delivered my HHG in Monterey for a military move. Two men were sent to unload all of our belongings into our apartment which was down a flight of stairs. One guy passed out during the first hour due to low blood sugar, and the other guy (an older man) complained constantly about his numerous health problems which made me feel guilty. He also made me extremely uncomfortable and asked me if I was Christian and what my ethnicity was. The younger guy also started playing explicit rap music on his phone half way through the day, and the older guy kept trying to force me to tell the other guy to stop playing it. It was an awful experience. Not to mention tons of our furniture was broken and the older guy tried to convince me not to bother with a claim.

BEWARE of this company and their “low quotes”
They will say anything to get your business- once they do they will hold you hostage for more money - then you miraculously can’t get anyone on the phone ...they scammed my College aged daughter ...wouldn’t return her calls and made her sign a paper to pay 1000 more than the quote - even after she left a 1200$ couch off of the truck to try to drive the price down. After Sam Lewis lied to get her sale- by promising an 8AM pick up - the movers told her they were never told- it’s in writing
She missed work and lost a couch and now an additional 1000$
Sam’s boss Jackie Miller laughed at our 3 day debacle ... basically was like oh well... yep you got scammed ... deal with it- I wish zero stars were an option
