Recently, while planning a trip to Hot Springs Village to inspect our lot, I discovered that my wife's 2015 membership card was all that I could find. (She purchased to lot of me years ago, in anticipation of our retirement) and I never bothered to ask for a card with my name)
I e-mailed the office and was assured by the lady who called back that it would be no problem and I could just show it to the guard and be issued a temporary pass to look at the lot and then proceed to the administration office and secure a permanent pass, in my name and perhaps one for Peggy.

Imagine my dismay, as I presented the paper pass and explained the purpose of my visit to Robert, the gate sentry, and he told me he would, under no circumstances accept it and issue a temporary pass as Peggy was not my name and therefore he was obliged to confiscate the pass and hand it over to the police! Apparently there had been a problem with persons entering the Village under false pretenses and he was instructed to act accordingly. Robert made no attempt to verify my identity, nor make any effort to secure a pass for me! He was determined that I, a 70 year old man, was up to no good and he was going to protect the Village from my assault!
I was beside myself with disbelief!

At that point I asked Robert to call the admin. office to see if this could be cleared up. He flatly refused! When I asked him for the number, he verbally recite it to me, without any phone or means to copy the number. I asked him to write it on a piece of paper for me, which he did.

Forgive me if this seems tedious, but I certainly hope that other absentee owners will not subjected to the same indignities as I was.

I then returned to my rental car and called the admin. office. Richard took my call and was a complete treasure, compared to Robert. Please give him my regards and thanks.

Unfortunately, Richard's good faith suggestion of going back out to the real estate office and asking them for a temp. pass bore no fruit either as the lady there told my they had no passes available. (or could not help me for some reason)

Still on the phone with Richard, he told me he had no luck contacting Robert's superior and that, possibly, a police office could be dispatched to the east gate to sort this out.

At that point I was thoroughly disgusted with the entire futile attempt to observe something we had owned for years, and promptly paid each and every assessment on during that entire time, so I just left with the impression that absentee property owners are treated as second class citizens.

One of my relatives regularly attends classes there and she was aghast at the welcome I received from Robert.

I will likely reassess our future plans for the property in your community!

I have lived here for 15 years. I rent a house as my primary residence. I commend the men and women at the gate. If you don't have the proper I'd that is required to enter that is on you no matter what your age is. That od why they are here. If they weren't there, Desoto would be nothing more than a shortcut from hwy 7 hwy 5. Crime would go up. So I thank the guards for their service
And doing the the job they are paid to do

I am a new property owner. I have been up here 4 times prior to purchasing. At no time has anyone mentioned the information center. My map is very basic. I like to explore. Hence, I noticed the information center. I shall pay them a visit. People are nice. There is no crime in the Village because of the guards on the gate and the area is fenced.

They do a lot to drive business to the local establishments. They are a great resource if you are looking to find a reputable contractor.
